What I’ve been up to:
Becoming unemployed threw me for a loop. Not in a bad way, but in a disruptive, “OMG I don’t have to work, I can read dark romance and go out for lunch or to the pool and no one will care” kind of way. However, the fear of managing without a steady income and being truly self-employed, takes some getting used to.
This new book is taking more time than I expected. I’m delving into richer characters with darker backstories, and a far more emotional journey than I originally planned. It’s true that writing a book can be an unexpected adventure, even when the trip is carefully planned in advance!

Where is Luce?! She’s working hard to launch her debut novel, DELICIOUS SURRENDER!
There is a good reason you haven’t heard from me in the last month. This self publishing pursuit has given me plenty of challenges to navigate – and I think it would be cool to share a bit of the adventure with you.
So you’ve heard me say I will launch in December, in time for Christmas and Chanukah! But, what will it take to get there…

That stuff was pretty straightforward and I bumped along and got it done. When I created my to do list back in June, I thought I’d captured all the pieces of this giant puzzle. Not even close! How can you know what you don’t know?
Talk to experts, that’s how! Start with friends with countless fabulous contacts : Kimberley Clarke! Amazing authors who have been down this road : Allison Graham & Beth Gelman! Indie Publishers who have done this loads of times : Jeanne Martinson, my book coach!
Did you know that the person who designs the inside of the book is different from the outside of the book? Yup. Internal matter needs a skilled formatter : Christine Lee! Front cover, back cover, Kindle cover all get designed by a professional Cover Designer : Kari March!
What if you want something truly original? What if you have scoured the royalty free photo sites and the best pictures are already on lots of other books in your genre?
Then you think outside the box and open a conversation with a gorgeous, professional model. “So, what do you think about being on the cover of a juicy erotic romance?” I don’t want to say too much right now and jinx things. I promise to let you know if this wild idea comes to fruition.
More tasks showed up on the list:
- Hire experts to navigate Social Media!✅ Hurray for Sweet Honey Marketing!
- Source a Contract for Image Rights ✅ Thanks Google and Creators Legal!
- Buy a DocuSign license and fiddle with it for half a day✅
- Purchase a Package of ISBNs ✅
Did you know that each and every format of a book needs its own ISBN (the 13-digit International Standard Book Number)? You do now. Digital, paperback, hard cover, audio, special editions etc.
I almost forgot to mention the critical vendors that will get the book into a buyers hands!!
- Open account at Kindle Direct Publishing✅
- Sign up at Ingram Spark so it’s stocked at Barnes & Noble, Target & more ✅
As I sipped my coffee this morning, I contemplated all the things that never occurred to me when I started jotting down the story of a feisty gal with juicy dreams and a hard-edged entrepreneur with trust issues. Things like cover color schemes, fonts, paper weight, chapter styles, binding…the blurb, the bio, the BLOG, oh my!
You know there’s more, but I don’t have time to lay on this couch and ruminate. I need to finish this blog and get on Instagram!

In this blog, I will share my thoughts about spicy erotic romance, authors I admire, spiritual wisdom, life hacks, finding your joy and who knows what else. And, we might talk about sex.
If you missed my inaugural post, allow me to explain what I mean by LIVE LIFE JUICY.
In the simplest of terms, it means living your truth with integrity, faith and conviction. In order to do that, you must know who you are, what you want, and how to get out there and fight for it. It also means being able to ignore or walk away from negative, judgmental people who may try to talk you out of your loftiest dreams. I know this is not a simple task. It takes daily practice to block self doubt, and ignore the naysayers who expect you to fail.
When I started writing fiction more than 25 years ago, I wrote for myself and didn’t share it with anyone. Fifteen cool book ideas sat unfinished and doomed to remain hidden from the world because I found a million reasons to put them aside. Life, my job, shame, shyness, fear of judgement, and fear of success. I never finished any of those novels… Until now.
It’s not impossible, but it is rare for a debut author, with no social media following to traditionally publish a first novel with over 100,000 words in the erotic romance category. So, I have decided to self-publish!! My goal is to launch this novel in time for the holidays – this December 2024 and I need your help. If you know someone who loves a sexy story with an alpha hero and a feisty female lead, or someone who needs a little spice in their life, please share this blog or send them to my website for more juicy details.
DELICIOUS SURRENDER will launch on digital first, print second and maybe an audio version, if I can find a sexy Scotsman to narrate Gage’s deep dark voice. For me, Live Life Juicy means living your truth with integrity, faith and conviction. In order to do that, you must know who you are and what you want, and be willing to fight for it.
It also means being able to ignore negative judgmental people who may try to dissuade you from your goals and dreams. Believe me, I know this is not simple and it takes practice to block self doubt, naysayers and douchebags who expect you to fail.
I am blessed to have a partner who loves all of me, including the light and the dark parts. He encourages me every day to dream big and reach for it. I am also blessed with a tremendous circle of friends who fill me with confidence and excitement whenever I start to waver.
About 28 years ago, I started to dabble with writing. I wrote and stalled, wrote and deleted. Fifteen cool book ideas sat unfinished and hidden from the world. I found a million reasons to put them aside. Life, my job, shame, shyness and fear of judgement, success, or both. I never finished any of them. Until now.
They say patience is a virtue… Pffft! I’m not so sure. Pursuing the traditional publishing route means patience is imperative.
So…while my manuscript is in the queue waiting to be reviewed and accepted, I will blog and send teasers, so you have good reason to hang on for the entire ride!
